Michael E. Zimmerman, 62, of Harrisburg, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet west on William Penn Highway near the intersection with Racehorse Drive in Union Township (Lebanon County) when he struck Jill C. Staub, 51, of New Oxford, the state police detailed in the release.

Before striking Jill, Michael hit a concrete barrier, continued west, but gradually entered the right lane, according to the updated release. He continued on the grassy right shoulder, into a row of mailboxes — where Jill was retrieving her mail.

Jill fell on some debris from the crash, while Michael continued into a utility pole — splitting into in half, PSP explained.

Jill died at the scene at 3:49 p.m. on Aug. 22, according to the updated release.

Michael was wearing his seatbelt and suffered a minor injury. He was airlifted by Life Lion to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, the police explained.

A blood draw was also conducted at the hospital as the state police believe this is a "DUI" incident. No changes have been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
